Awakened Shadow adalah game ketiga dari series Blue Dragon.
Yang pertama diluncurkan untuk Xbox 360 sekitar tiga tahun yang lalu.
Dan yang kedua berjudul Blue Dragon Plus, dikeluarkan tahun 2008 untuk Nintendo DS.
Layaknya gamegame RPG yang sudah banyak digemari pemilik NDS
seperti Phantasy Star Zero dan Dragon Quest IX, Blue Dragon Awakened Shadow menawarkan
fitur character customization di awal permainan.
Walaupun pilihan yang tersedia tidak begitu melimpah, fitur ini cukup berhasil
untuk memberikan ke-unik-an bagi setiap pemain yang berbeda.
Dan sejalan dengan progres, kita dapat menemukan berbagai 'item'
untuk memodifikasi karakter kita lebih jauh.
Dalam hal storyline, game ini mengenalkan beberapa NPC penting kepada pemain dengan cukup cepat.
Cerita dapat menjadi sedikit membosankan dan membingungkan di awal permainan
namun akan sangat menyedot minat para pemain ketika ditelusuri lebih dalam.
Dari segi gameplay, Blue Dragon Awakened Shadow menggunakan
real time combat, seperti Legend of Zelda, FFCC: Echoes of Time, dll.
Sehingga dalam sebuah pertarungan, pemain mendapatkan ruang yang bebas
untuk menghindar ataupun menyelinap ke bagian belakang musuh.
Berbeda dengan pendahulunya (BD Plus) yang menerapkan
turn based combat, seperti Final Fantasy III, Dragon Quest IV, dll.
Untuk menjadi lebih kuat, pemain dapat menelusuri dungeon dan menyelesaikan quest
atau mengalahkan bos yang berada di balik pintupintu misterius.
Dengan mengalahkan bos setiap pintu, kita akan diberikan hadiah 'item' yang
dapat berupa senjata, pakaian, dll.
Juga mendapatkan tantangan untuk mengalahkan rekor waktu kita sebelumnya.
Bila bermain sendiri, pemain mendapatkan kebebasan dalam hal memilih
anggota party (maksimal dua anggota lain), shadow yang digunakan serta pakaian
dan senjata bagi tiap anggota.
Sedangkan bila bermain bersama pemain lain via wireless connection maupun wi-fi,
kita hanya mengkontrol karakter utama kita.
Multiplayer dalam game ini memberikan kebebasan untuk saling menukar barang antar pemain.
Juga dapat mempermudah pertarungan melawan bos dan menyediakan 'item' yang lebih 'rare' di akhir pertarungan.
Blue Dragon Awakened Shadow memiliki graphic yang cukup mengesankan.
Karakter memiliki ekspresi, landscape kota dan dungeon yang cukup detil.
Design monster dari musuh biasa hingga bos terlihat eksotis dan sangat menakjubkan.
Tentunya, karena hal ini dihandle oleh Akira Toriyama, artis yang menciptakan seri kartun Dragon Ball Z.
